Encouragement and Baby Advice for New Moms from Instagram

Instagram

I joined Instagram when I started this website in Fall of 2018. I wish I had been on it sooner. There are so many wonderful people out there posting
encouragement and great baby advice for new moms.

This post is about my favorites who I follow. I’m sure there are many more out there posting great things. But if you don’t follow anyone yet, heres a great place to start.

Hashtags

Before we get into people, let’s talk about hashtags. You can follow certain hashtags to receive the updates of whenever anyone uses them. A few really good ones are:

#momstruggles
#breastfeedbaby
#motherhood
#parenthood

All four of those hashtags will bring up funny and encouraging photos on your feed.

People

There are a lot of people you can follow. Here are some of my favorites put into categories. Keep in mind that while I am categorizing them, many create posts in the other categories. I’m placing where they post the most.

The titles for each are a link to their profile in a new tab.

Follow on Instagram

Breastfeeding Support

Firstlatch

First Latch

Most of her photos are breastfeeding photos. They are anyplace, anywhere. Great encouragement for anyone who believes in normalizing breastfeeding and wants to breastfeed anywhere without covering.

She has her own podcast, and from what I can tell, is a lactation consultant.

Thebadassbreastfeeder

The Badass Breastfeeder

Also shares mostly breastfeeding photos but some memes as well. And I just love the name. The bad ass breastfeeder.

She’s a blogger, social worker, and has a podcast.

Breastfeeding_tips_4u

Breastfeeding tips 4u

More breastfeeding photos with memes. Some of her posts give some tips on breastfeeding like all the great benefits breastfeeding provides.

Seems to be just an instagram group. The profile doesn’t have a link to any websites.

Gorgeous.mothers

Gorgeous Mothers
Gorgeous Mothers

A hard one to place. Most of the photos are about breastfeeding but there are some for pregnancy and labor as well.

I can’t find who’s behind this profile, but they do have a youtube channel talking about breast health and other female health items.

Pregnancy

Healthy.Pregnancy

Healthy.Pregnancy

Mostly focuses on pregnancy but shares from other categories as well, especially labor. There are a lot of exercise during pregnancy posts and fun memes.

The link on their profile brings you to their site where you can buy pregnancy exercise programs.

Eobstetricsandgynecology

These guys are one of my favorites on instagram. I put them in the pregnancy category, but they share everything. A lot of the videos are animated and educational. One of the best to follow for learning about pregnancy.

I visited their website to find out more about who’s behind the profile. The website doesn’t have an intuitive layout. I couldn’t find out much. Which is too bad, because I really love their Instagram feed.

Labor

Birthwithoutfear

Another one of my favorites. The posts are all about labor. There are many videos you can watch of babies being born. The videos are of water births, home births, c-sections, and hospital vaginal.

The lady behind the profile has a book coming out this year, is a blogger, and has her own podcast.

Stopcensoringmotherhood

This one was a hard one to place. They share photos from pregnancy, labor, and breastfeeding. They’re really trying hard to unstigmatize and show the beauty of motherhood.

They have a website you can visit with different stories, a blog, podcasts, and their book. They are also apparently touring this year.

General Mom Life

Natthenaturalmom

Nat the Natural Mom

These photos are of Nat and her family. A lot of breastfeeding but also a lot of family time. I like how the photos are intimate and real. Sometimes Nat shares her raw moments with them which are really encouraging.

The link on her profile is to her blog.

Parenting Ugh

Parenting_ugh

The memes! All kinds of parenting memes to make you smile.

Another Instagram only profile.

Motherhoodthroughletterboards

Motherhood through letter boards

This one is moderated by a few different people. They mostly share photos that people have you used their hashtag in (#motherhoodthroughletterboards). So the photos are of quirky and fun things moms for all around have come up with.

Thatbadmomlife

Another profile all about the memes. These ones are unique in that they are sassy.

They have a clothing line with sassy comments on them for moms and babies.

Kristinakuzmic

Kristina Kuzmic

Kristina may be the last on the list, but she is by far the least. I knew about her long before I ever even got pregnant. She shares a lot of inspirational videos she makes herself. They are all about encouraging moms in being the best they can be and accepting life when it’s not easy.

She does tours and her videos are all over facebook. You’ve probably seen them before.

Honorable Mentions

There are plenty of others who share and interact on facebook but don’t fit my interests. They still post great stuff.

For Dads: Mydadblogs, Awesomedadgear

For Fitness (especially for the new moms): Mrsjackieebert, mommaof4_on_amissionofhealth, jeanetteisley, kensibishop – I’m pretty sure all of these ladies will talk to you about your fitness goals and help you get there.

Check Them Out

These are the people I follow on Instagram and wish I had known about during pregnancy. They post wonderful and encouraging stuff.

And of course, don’t forget to follow me as well!

Do you follow any of these groups? Are there some who give great encouragement to knew parents that you follow?

*Note: I don’t know much about what’s on each’s websites off of Instagram. I only looked briefly to tell a little about them. I only know them on Instagram. And I’m working on getting permissions from everyone to share their profile photo. The ones who have already granted permission have their photos up.

Thank for delivering such a nice write-up about these pages and hashtsgs on Instagram. I must confess you did a really great and wonderful job pulling all these together. I must commend your effort because I didn’t know Instagram could be so helpful for pregnant women too. This post was really helpful and informative. Thanks

I could not agree more with you Instagram is one of the social media I really like, on the contrary to some others and I like it because like you said it is full of support and encouragement when you need it and you can choose who to follow or not and most of the time it is really uplifting stuff. I will go and check out some of the #you were talking about. Thank you for the suggestions

Hi there, I know how many problem young moms are facing with. I didn’t even think that Instagram posts might be a source of tutorials. I was always checking articles, tutorials on youtube, but not Instagram. I will sand this blog to my friend who is a young mom. I hope she will enjoy it 🙂

Thanks for this list! As mothers (well parents in general), it’s so important to have support. Sometimes it can be so overwhelming feeling like you’re the only one experiencing something. So it definitely helps to have a community to offer support and encouragement. I’ll check these people out on instagram for sure.

Thanks for the article. Instagram is an incredibly powerful tool and with the power of hashtags you can connect with the community that vibes most with you. I wish we would have known about the pregnancy one too when my wife was pregnant. It always helps having a support system that can extend with people going through the same trials.

This was a unique and useful post on Instagram resources for new moms! I use Instagram sparingly, although I know it can be helpful for business because I just have too much on my plate already. I do know that many people spend a LOT of time on the platform though, even new moms!  Since I have two daughters who have young children (actually 6 young children altogether!) I have forwarded this post to them as I know they will find it useful too. There are plentiful sources of information on Instagram as you point out. I had no idea… Read more »

I love your to-follow list Nicole!

Didn’t know there are websites for dads too, I thought people only give their focus to mothers. Awesome Dad Gear, I’m totally following them now! Went through their website and their content is pretty nice but my hat goes off to Kristina Kuzmic. I super love her content and I started following her on Instagram too, can’t get over that coffee jug she keeps bringing everywhere 😀

Your website contains so much valuable information for a mum-to-be. The navigation is user- friendly and you have added a miscellaneous category where there are  more useful information and where you recomended 8 best books to read during pregnancy. The images on your site are visually-appealing. This is a go-to site for expectant mothers.

Another fine post, new momma, Nicole.

This is a handy platform for new mothers and other web users as well. Thanks for bringing Instagram to my attention. This valuable social media platform can be better levered by new mothers, thanks to your efforts.

Why is it that many Instagrams users arrive there later?

Is it less well promoted than the other social media platforms?

Has it become your favorite and if not, which one is?

Thanks.

This a an excellent post! I think thesepeople from Instagram are not just inspiring or helpful but I believe they’ve are important. I think pregnancy and parenting is difficult enough without getting judgement or insensitive comments from  what I assume would be narcissistic or selfish people who only think about how they feel. It is  great that there are resources and memes out there’s that can help moms through difficult days and even help when dealing with difficult people who are somehow offended by breastfeeding. I remember when my cousin was pregnant that this was something that used to infuriate… Read more »

Instagram if I must say is one of the most important tool on social media to get information, I love the fact that this was brought to my knowledge. Although I’ve not been on instagram ever! But this just goes to prove that I’m going to need it at a point in my life sooner than later.

I’m really happy that a website like this is around to help young moms. I know how hard it can be to have a child then nurturing them is another thing entirely, there’s so much things to note and avoid for a child to stay healthy and some new moms would find it hard to cope. But sites like this is of great help.

A lot of people always like to think about the negative side of social media but the fact is that there are also a lot of positives on social media and becoming a part of social media. It is really good to know that Instagram is been used for a good purpose as this.

Being a new mom is not an easy task and one would need encouragement to be able to pass through this particular stage. Following these accounts can put a smile on the face of a new baby mama.

Hello Nicole, this was a nice list that you have put together discussing baby advice for mothers. Being a mother is not easy, and it is such a big responsibility. I love how these instagramers are posting motivational content to keep the mothers spirits up, and the funny memes to keep them cheered up. I commend of the mothers out there during their thing, despite that the job is difficult. Thanks again for the share!

What a marvelous post, Nicole!  I’m way past first motherhood but I do remember the uncertainty, worry, and turmoil in the middle of all the breathless happy-happy.  Always, there’s the little voice that questions:  Can I really DO this? For me, there were a pile of relatives and friends who ALL had opinions, often contradictory, sometimes dead wrong…but, THERE.  The encouragement that comes from knowing that others have felt as you feel, been overwhelmed by it all, and survived is a biggie! It has gotten a lot harder for many first-time mothers who may not have that sort of support… Read more »

I love this article more so when you talk on advice regarding the best baby advice  I am not mother but I would  love to say that mothers should be free to  breast anywhere without fear of victimizing the act and letting the mothers be free to do it at will .that can only be done if the subject is brought out for discussion and it will help in making mother’s to breastfeed at will.

I think support is one of the main things that is so important for new mothers.  I do, of course, as my daughter’s mom, try to always be there for her and the baby, but finding peers is probably the best thing for her.  Other new moms who are going through and feeling the same feelings she is feeling.  I can give her my experience and how I handled the various things, but to have real-time up to date advice and encouragement, well that’s invaluable.   I’m never at a loss when I come to a new article on your site.  My… Read more »

Awesome information and so proud you are sharing these. I also love the name badassbreastfeeder . Your idea to share will help many. To be informed and prepared. I am not an Instagram user. But may rethink that. Thanks for all the food for thought. So many sites to check out.

Blessings,

Scarlett

Hello Nicole,

Obviously, very good advice can get the future mom from Instagram. This is an idea that I like very much to be able to help the mother to know better the different stages from pregnancy to the birth of the baby. I think it’s great to see, for example, childbirth in the water, in the home, cesareans, etc. Today’s mothers will be much better prepared, they have places like Instagram that make their lives easier.

Thanks for sharing. Regards! Claudio

Have women contacted you who are afraid to have kids just because of labor?I’ve heard cases where the couple does not have the kids for this reson. What do you think about that? is there a therapy program for that?  I do not know the field very well, but the fact that I do not have children is somehow related to the experience of birth. It is sad that when I tried to talk to my family about this, they reacted defensively, saying to me that this is the “woman’s job” and that I should not complain too much. The… Read more »
